Wands
Wands are the primary form of defense and there are spells which most learn for protection. These spells must be maintained by completing certain wand rituals throughout the year. These spells will be found in our magic section.
Wand magic is traceable via governmental security magic.
Inspectors, Carrick Guards and other law enforcement officials have more extensive spells and must keep them current and strengthened. It is part of their jobs to do this. Also, the wands used for their work are government issued and not the wands they use for their other life’s magic. Inspectors are carefully recruited and wands are given to enhance their natural abilities. Carrick Guard are issued standard issue wands.
There is a blackmarket for illegal wands. People call them "killing wands" even if they are not used for that purpose. It is illegal to possess one and you can find yourself in some deep trouble if you are caught.
Killing Magic
Wand battles can result in fatal injuries, but your common wizard does not work any killing spells. These are the work of dark wizards with inside training and even then this would be rare. Killing spells are known by Kevin Brennan, Reed Shellgren, Ryan Avery and Agnes Croft on our board. If one of these characters teaches you a killing spell, you are free to use it, but will also face whatever consequences it brings as well.
Torture Magic Torture magic is something that the common dark thug might know on varying levels. Extremely illegal and physically tasking to the caster, it is not as common as one might think. The Dray, however, work in very organized groups that make this magic more available and less tiring to them.
Knives
There are knives and then there are magical knives. Ordinary knives do ordinary damage. Magical knives can be used in more sinister ways. They can make spiritual cuts as well as physical cuts. They can be used to introduce a demon into a selected victim.
Magical knives are not common and would mostly be found among the dark wizarding sorts. These knives are not legal and one caught with one would be arrested.
They are available on the black market.
Ordinary knives are not illegal to carry, but assaulting someone with one is, as are knife fights. These have begun to be a problem with the rise in crime as ordinary knives are not traceable in the way wands are.
Guns
Guns do not exist in the magical world. As a matter of fact, there are many citizens in Magical Ireland who would have little knowledge of these items. They are not part of the curriculum at Whispers because the magical world finds these items absolutely barbaric. A top-secret security magic exists to track down anyone who brings guns or more especially, bullets, into the magical world. The latter being the bigger of the two crimes.
No one living in the Magical Ireland has ever been killed by a gun.
High Powered Weapons and Bombs
These do not exist and would never be allowed in. The security spells for these are so powerful that anyone who tried to bring such a weapon into the magical world would spontaneously combust.
Weapons of Mass Destruction
These exist in a magical form. They are known only by the government, The Dray and the The Guild of Raven.
Dark Magical Weapons
These weapons are varied and many. Special Investigative teams are set up to intercept these and take them out of public circulation. They are big black market items and collector pieces in the world of dark wizards.
They vary in power and capabilities.
The Guild of Raven has control over some of the most foul of these and keeps them from the public's conscience. These items are often so powerful that they take over the one who possesses them and drives the person to ultimate ruin while carving a path of dark destruction.
Lessor items are often sold on the sly in markets in MacTavish Alley.
